What’s Happening This August at Westfield?
This August we are thinking Fun Summer Leisure. Check out what will be happening each Sunday that we are open from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. including the Family Craft that we have planned. Don’t forget that you can use your HCA membership for free admission to Westfield. The membership also gives you discounts to our specialty programming like Mindfulness Hikes as well as Special Events like Halloween and Christmas.
August 10 – Child’s Play
How did children spend their time historically? It usually involved, chores, school and leisure time with friends and family. Plan to attend school for one of our lessons taking place at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Recess time will be part of the fun. Make sure to visit the Lockhart to help with a butter making chore or the General Store to help with the chore of “shopping”. We are playing crokinole and shuffle board at the Bandstand. A bonus feature is visiting with one of our volunteer cycle enthusiasts, who will be talking about bike safety and the “Owl Look”. Bring your bike along for some extra fun.
The Family Craft is at #25 on the map and we are making thaumatropes.
August 17 – Music and Dance Come tap your toes and swing your partner at the Bandstand. Westfield volunteer, Ian Bell, will be out to play his squeeze box and provide some tunes for our local country dancers. Come dance a reel or watch the fun. Stop by the General Store first to purchase a cool refreshment, sweet treat or a salty one like Saratoga Chips and pickle on a stick.
The Family Craft is at #25 and we are making a refreshing watermelon card.
August 24 – Be Well
We plan to have some fun with period exercises on the Village Green. Visit the travelling doctor at the D’Aubigny Inn and discover how medicine has changed a 100 years later in the Drug Store.
The craft is making a 3D paper carrot at #25 on the map.
August 31 and September 1 – Favourite Stories in Film: Exploring the Sets of Anne of Green Gables and Murdoch Mysteries.
Yes, we are open both Sunday and Labour Day Monday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Westfield has been the scene for some of our favourite episodes of Anne of Green Gables, Anne with an E, and Murdoch Mysteries. Join our Tour Guide, long time volunteer Store Keeper, David, as he takes visitors to the spot where these shows have filmed. Tours will be at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Recreate your own photo opportunity of a well known scene showing a famous red head arriving at the Bright River Train Station!
