What’s happening in June at Westfield?

Visitors love to have their picture taken with our costumed historical interpreters, but these fashions are so much more than a pretty picture. The clothing helps to enhance the stories that we tell about the early settlers and how daily life evolved over 200 years. Just by looking at someone’s clothing a person may be able to determine social status, wealth, occupation and so much more.

On June 7 there will be a fashion show in the Mountsberg Church at 2:00 p.m. of some of the clothes specifically made by volunteers for our fashion show outreach program in the community. We will also have a few pieces from the artifact collection on display.

Each week we have a family craft and on June 7 it will be paper dolls with clothing pieces.

What has started to sprout in the gardens at Westfield? Come find out on June 14. It’s been a wet and cold Spring, so we have had a slow start. Come find out about some of the native plants that we have re-introduced to the property. Kids can pick-up their Westfield Nature Journal and complete activities in the Anniversary Garden. Meet some of our volunteer gardeners who will be happy to talk about their work.

Every vegetable garden can use the help of a scarecrow. Our family craft is to make a paper Scarecrow Puppet!

June is Indigenous History month, and June 21 is both Indigenous Peoples Day and Father’s Day. Plan to spend some time with Rope Loft who is Mohawk and sharing his family history. Learn about Rope’s journey of discovery in getting to know his ancestors and the many contributions they have made to their local communities and to Canada as a whole. Rope will also be unveiling a new information panel as part of his family history.

Thinking of the special someone on Father’s Day that you might like to recognize? Come make a note card as part of our Family Craft.

It’s June 28 and schools out! How did people spend their summers? Was it all work? Come find out about leisure time, strawberry socials and more.

The Family Craft is making a paper picnic basket!
