What’s Happening in July at Westfield?

July 5 we are highlighting the trades in the village. Visitors can challenge themselves to achieve level of apprentice after completing 6 activities. The buildings include the Tailor Shop, Spinning and Weaving Shop, Print Shop, Boot and Harness Shop, Planing Mill, and Blacksmith Shop. We are also welcoming some members from the Blacksmith Association who will be out with portable forges.

July 12 we are highlighting the needlecrafts and fibre arts that one might see through the various time periods. Quilting, rug hooking, embroidery, knitting and more will be part of the afternoon. The family craft is weaving a paper mat.

July 19 we are highlighting the artistic talents of some of our volunteers. Participate in a painting lesson on the green, explore the world of pigments and paints, and learn about using plants to dye fabric. The schoolteacher will be at the school giving an art lesson on this day. Don’t forget to stop by the family craft and use broccoli as your paint brush!

July 26 What else happens in the historic kitchens? We cook and bake, but what other activities might happen in this space? The family craft is making a note card with the Jam Jar as the central theme.
