The Coolest Event of the Summer!
Westfield’s Ice Cream Carnival Coming Soon
With a one-of-a-kind mix of tasty treats, unique activities and a beautiful rural setting, Westfield Heritage Village’s Ice Cream Carnival is a recipe for mid-summer fun. This all-ages event takes place on Sunday August 4 and Monday August 5 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.
Have you ever tried cranking a traditional wooden ice cream churn? This is your chance to roll up your sleeves and give it a try. With the help of Westfield’s skilled volunteer ice cream makers, you can have a hands-on lesson on how ice cream was made the old-fashioned way. Westfield uses its collection of antique recipe books for inspiration. Cool and delicious homemade ice creams in a range of flavours are the tasty result!
Rondalyn Brown, manager at Westfield, sums it up this way, “If you’ve never tasted real ice cream made with fresh cream, fresh fruit and other delicious ingredients, you are in for a wonderful surprise. One of my favourites is Westfield Maple, which is made with syrup made right here in the village.” If these samples leave you hankering for more, you can visit Westfield’s new Ice Cream Parlour to purchase an ice cream cone, or stop by the Crazy Cravings ice cream truck for a sundae.
The Edwardian Carnival is a genuine delight, with a fun collection of active games set up on the village green under colourful canvas tents. Think baseballs and wooden milk bottles. You can take your picture sitting on the moon, chat with a fortune teller, spin the wheel and toss rope rings to your heart’s content. Play as many times as you wish - no tickets required. You won’t want to miss a ride on an incredible antique steam traction engine as it makes its way around the village.
In keeping with the carnival theme, there will be lots of fun, reasonably priced foods available. Sweet treats, cool lemonade, bottled soda, Saratoga chips, pickle-on-a-stick and ice cream cups will be available from the General Store. Salty and sweet kettle corn from the Frontier Popcorn Company and delicious hot foods from the Copetown Lions will also be available for purchase. And, you are always welcome to bring a picnic to Westfield.
As a special feature this year, two of the children’s authors that will be presenters in Westfield’s 2019 Telling Tales Festival will make special presentations at the Ice Cream Carnival. Both authors are contributors to the Scholastic children’s book series, The Almost Epic Squad. Sunday August 4 at 2:00 p.m. will feature Ted Staunton, and on Monday August 5 at 2:00 p.m. you can meet Richard Scrimger.
Mark your calendar and head to Westfield for some cool and delicious Ice Cream Carnival fun!
