With good planning and an adventurous spirit, a snow picnic can be every bit as fun as a summer picnic. Just ask the Thistle family who were out recently. At Westfield, you can set yourself up in our bandstand, our designated picnic table area, or dive right in and put down blankets in the snow!
Wherever you end up, you’ll want to follow these tips for keeping comfortable outdoors.
- Layers! Layers! Layers! You can always take off your snow pants if it’s too warm but it’s hard to enjoy the outdoors, let alone sit in one place, when your feet are numb.
- Start simple the first time when you head out with young kids. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate and maybe some chocolate chip cookies.
- Bring lots of blankets or cushions to sit on or cover yourself with.
- Take out those dusty binoculars hiding in your closet for wildlife or bird watching
- Don’t forget:
- Sunscreen
- Tissues
- Extra socks and mitts
Westfield Heritage Village Conservation Area has almost 8km of easy walking trails, washroom facilities, natural woodlands, plantation forests, provincially significant wetlands, meadow areas, cultural heritage features from past farming operations, and over 35 historical buildings to enjoy from the outside.
Access to the trails and conservation area is seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset. Thank you for helping us keep Westfield clean by putting your trash in any of our bins provided.
