Are you looking for something fun to do this Sunday and Monday? Gather up your family and friends and celebrate Canada at Westfield Heritage Village. Westfield is a living history museum where you can learn about life in early Canada in beautiful, rural surroundings. More than 30 heritage buildings are staffed by authentically costumed interpreters who will take you back to earlier times and places. In the spirit of celebration, visitors wearing red and white will be given a free pin at admissions (while quantities last).
Did you know that Westfield has been the setting for several films and television series? The museum’s period homes and shops, beautiful gardens and woodland trails have provided the perfect historical backdrop for favourite Canadian stories, and more.
If you are an Anne Fan, the Canada Day weekend is your chance to see locations, props and tableaus that are connected with this favourite tale. Seat yourself on the bench at the Bright River Station where Anne waited for Matthew. You might even meet a certain red-haired girl and have a photo with her. See the blue dress with puffed sleeves in the Dry Goods Store. Purchase a monkey-faced cookie and a cool glass of raspberry cordial at the General Store. Practice your penmanship in the one room school house under the watchful eye of Miss Stacy. On Sunday afternoon you can have a dancing lesson at the bandstand. Special pop-up tours will be offered on both days.
You are always welcome to bring a picnic to Westfield. Pick up a cold drink or sweet from the General Store and find a nice spot in the picnic area or under a shady tree. Don’t forget your camera!
