Preparing the evaporator

Yesterday we put in 46 taps and are eagerly waiting for production to begin. This year we are offering an outdoor Maple Syrup Season experience. We are also introducing a reservation system. This means that everyone who wishes to come to Westfield on Sundays, March  13, 20 and 27 as well as Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 17 needs to make a reservation. We’ve also added a date:  Sunday, April 3. This includes anyone who wants to come for pancakes. Yes, the St. George Lions will be out to sell pancakes from their take-out window. You still need to make a reservation to be able to gain entry to the parking lot.

Each reservation is for a 2-hour block of time. There is lots to see in those two hours including: the 3 kettle demonstration at the Lockhart Farm, viewing maple syrup production at the sugar shack and the modern evaporator, a demonstration about technology and climate change as well as a Maple Trivia Trail to hike. The historical buildings will not be open for this program but you will be able to view special displays in our shop windows at the General Store, Dry Goods Store and Hardware Store. Don’t forget to pick-up a sample of our maple syrup to try at the Hardware Store. You will also be able to buy some sweet maple treats at the General Store and Gift Shop. The kids will really enjoy playing our scavenger hunt games. There are two options. Look for our 12 birds hidden in the trees on the Sugar Shack Trail or find the 12 wooden maple leaves in our building windows. We’ve also put out our Maple Information Panels.

Cap off your visit with a pancake meal. The St. George Lions are offering pancakes, sausages and ham at very reasonable prices. There will also be warm drinks. Please keep in mind that all dining is el fresco (at our picnic tables) so you will want to dress for the weather. Start looking for those ski pants, warm woolen mittens and toques! For this program you may want to consider bringing a wagon for the kids instead of bringing a stroller. There may still be snow and ice on the ground. Your family pet is invited too, but please remember to use a leash at all times.

We are so looking forward to seeing you soon. To find more information or to make a reservation you can use this link https://westfieldheritage.ca/maple-syrup-2022/
